Leur D'Automne | 30" x 36"
About the Artwork
Lueur d'Automne is a 30" × 36" acrylic on canvas painting by Michel Monett, presenting an open subalpine terrain in autumn with mountain peaks, scattered rock, fallen timber, and low ground cover occupying the full composition.
The title translates from French as "Autumn Glow." The foreground is occupied by large dark purple and maroon rounded rocks with pale grey-white fallen tree trunks crossing at diagonal angles and green low vegetation filling the spaces between them. Moving into the midground, the terrain opens into a broad field of orange, amber, and gold ground cover. Grey boulders of varying sizes are distributed across this area alongside additional fallen and leaning dead trees and several bare standing trunks with pale grey bark. Small living conifers appear at the left edge of the field. A dense band of conifers in deep purple and dark brown crosses the upper midground, and two mountain peaks rise behind them — the left presenting flat-topped angular forms in grey and dark red, the right showing pale, near-white upper rock faces. The sky is rendered in pale blue-green and mint with purple and lavender cloud formations at the upper edges. Gel medium texture is built up across the full surface.

Accessibility Description
The composition is a landscape-oriented painting presenting an open subalpine or alpine terrain in autumn. The sky occupies the upper portion of the canvas in pale blue-green and mint, with purple and lavender cloud formations along the upper edges. Below the sky, two mountain peaks rise at the centre and upper right — the left peak presents flat-topped angular forms in grey and dark red, and the right peak shows pale, near-white upper rock surfaces. A band of dense conifers in deep purple and dark brown runs across the upper midground, partially obscuring the base of the peaks. In front of the tree line, the terrain opens into a broad field covered in orange, amber, and gold ground cover. Grey boulders of varying sizes are distributed across this area. Fallen dead tree trunks in pale grey-white cross the field at diagonal angles. Several bare standing trunks with pale bark are visible within the field. Small living conifers appear at the left edge. Green low vegetation occurs in patches, particularly toward the lower portions of the midground. The foreground consists of large dark purple and maroon rounded rocks, additional fallen pale grey trunks, and green ground cover filling the spaces between rocks. The surface carries heavy gel medium texture throughout. The artist's signature, "Monett," appears in red in the lower right area of the canvas.

Artwork Care
CARING FOR YOUR ARTWORK
Display
Hang artwork away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air vents. UV exposure causes fading over time — UV-protective glazing is recommended for works on paper and photography. Avoid hanging artwork above fireplaces or in bathrooms where heat and humidity fluctuate.
Cleaning
Dust frames gently with a soft, dry cloth. Never use household cleaners, water, or solvents on the artwork surface. For oil paintings, a soft-bristle brush can be used lightly to remove surface dust. Professional cleaning is recommended for valuable or delicate pieces.
Temperature & Humidity
Maintain a stable environment — ideally 18–22°C (65–72°F) with 40–55% relative humidity. Rapid changes in temperature or humidity can cause warping, cracking, or flaking. In Alberta’s dry climate, a humidifier can help protect your collection during winter months.
Handling & Moving
Always handle artwork with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. Carry framed works by the sides of the frame — never by the hanging wire. When transporting, wrap in acid-free tissue or soft blankets and keep upright. For valuable pieces, professional art handlers and custom crating are recommended.
Storage
Store artwork upright in a cool, dry, dark space. Use acid-free materials for wrapping. Never store artwork in attics, basements, or garages where temperature and humidity are uncontrolled.
Insurance
We recommend insuring your art collection. An up-to-date appraisal (every 2–3 years) ensures proper coverage. West End Gallery offers professional appraisal services — please enquire for details.
