About the Artwork
Aurore is a 24" × 36" acrylic on canvas painting by Michel Monett. The composition presents a boreal forest floor at first light, with fallen and standing timber, rocks, and low ground cover occupying the foreground and midground beneath a dense tree line lit from behind by a concentrated light source.
The lower canvas is covered in dark purple and near-black rock forms, with pale grey-white fallen and broken tree trunks scattered across the foreground at varying angles. Green ground cover fills the spaces between the rocks. Moving into the midground, the forest floor opens into a broad expanse of orange and yellow where the light reaches the ground. Additional fallen logs cross diagonally through this area, and a cluster of rounded rocks sits at the right of centre. Standing conifers in deep purple and brown line both edges. In the upper background, a dense stand of trees recedes toward a concentrated light source — orange at its core and deepening to red and mauve at the outer edges — with the tree forms dissolving into the light at its perimeter. Gel medium texture is built up heavily across the full surface.

Accessibility Description
The painting is horizontal in format, wider than tall. The palette comprises deep purple, near-black, orange, yellow, green, and grey-white, with a bright orange and red light source dominating the upper background.
The upper background is occupied by a dense stand of conifer trees rendered in deep purple and mauve. A concentrated bright light source sits at upper centre-left, orange at its core and transitioning to red and deep mauve toward the outer edges. The tree forms dissolve into the light at its perimeter.
The midground presents an open forest floor in orange and yellow tones. Several fallen logs lie diagonally across this area. Green patches of ground cover appear between the logs. A cluster of dark rounded rocks sits at the right of centre. Standing conifer trees in dark purple and brown occupy the left and right edges of the midground.
The foreground is dominated by dark purple and near-black rocks of varying sizes. Pale grey-white fallen and broken tree trunks lie across the lower canvas at multiple angles. Green ground cover is visible between the rock and wood forms. Red linear marks appear throughout the lower foreground. The paint surface is heavily textured across the full canvas with visible impasto throughout. The artist's signature appears in red in the lower right area of the canvas.
