Born in Romania in 1971, Ilinca Ghibu moved to Canada and spent her formative years living in Montréal, QC. She also spent two years, between 16 and 18, living in Paris. Shortly before leaving for Paris, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts exhibited "Pablo Picasso, Rencontre à Montréal." The exhibition left an indelible mark and proved to be the perfect introduction to how she would spend her time in Paris. Her love affair with art flourished, and as she visited the city's museums and galleries, she indeed discovered her passion for art and realized the freedom of artistic expression.
Focusing first on her education, Ilinca began on a traditional path that brought her to the practice of law for over fifteen years. Her degrees in law and communications provided her with a strong work ethic and relentless desire to succeed. However, Ilinca never gave up her desire to be a visual artist. While pursuing a full-time career as a lawyer for over ten years, she studied fine arts at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts and The Visual Arts Centre. Her artistic sensitivity, as well as her insatiable desire to create, convinced her to dedicate herself full time to art.
"Through my creation, my imagery becomes clearer and my emotions more palpable. My observations, my sensations, my secrets and my boundaries come to life on the surface of a canvas. It is the way I give meaning to my daily life and define my personal story."
Since 2012, she has decided to devote herself entirely to her artistic process. Throughout the years, she developed a unique floral language that characterizes her process. Her style is expressive, spontaneous and colourful. Her brushstrokes and her palette are the tangible results of her imagination. Painting flowers is an excuse to explore materials and techniques following her emotions, experiences, and moods. To structure and push further her process, Ilinca completed additional training at UQAM University in Visual Arts.
