Greta Guzek is celebrating 20 years and her 11th solo exhibition, which runs June 6 - 18, 2020, at West End Gallery in Victoria! Greta’s joyous and whimsical West Coast paintings are familiar both in their stunning beauty and their intimate charm. Greta utilizes intricate design and vivid colours; her artwork captures the idyllic qualities that are intrinsic to the serenity of coastal life and nature.
This latest collection of paintings also draws inspiration from the poems of Robert Perry, whose anthology “The Arbutus Islands”; provide insight into life on the West Coast. By having a different poem displayed with each painting, Greta hopes that it will enhance the viewer’s appreciation and understanding of each painting and offer a deeper glimpse into her artistic vision.
I live on the edge of a natural paradise where I witness, daily, the heartbeat of the earth; it is radiant. I found these same sentiments in the poems of Robert Perry, whose anthology “The Arbutus Islands” became my focus point for these paintings, seeing between the lines.
If you live in the greater Victoria area, this exhibition is available to be attended by private viewings by appointment. We are open daily between 11 am and 4 pm to schedule appointments. Please contact us at 250.388.0009 or contact through our website through our Contact Us page
Salt Spring Island artist Jeannette Sirois has created a series of new coloured pencil drawings featuring birds and florals. Fascinated by details, her delicate renderings of the natural world are a treasure to behold.
"My biggest quest is to capture the unseen: ultimately allowing the spectator to experience and sense the air, the light, the smells, and the sounds of a stream gurgling in the spring, the cry of the cicada or the background noise made by tires on a rainy day downtown."
