About the Artwork
Wild Sky is a 30" × 30" oil on canvas by Rod Charlesworth (b. 1959). His paintings reflect a long-standing interest in the shape of coniferous forests and the light conditions of northern regions. Charlesworth often works with compact, repeated strokes that build colour and structure across the surface of the canvas.
In this painting, a group of evergreens stands before a broad expanse of water rendered in horizontal bands of blue and green. Behind the water, low rock formations and a distant line of trees mark the horizon. The upper portion of the canvas is filled with irregular blocks of yellow, orange, blue, and purple, forming a highly textured sky. The foreground includes small trees, shrubs, and clustered vegetation in yellow, red, and green, arranged in layered patches along the bottom edge.

Accessibility Description
This square-format oil painting shows a lakeside landscape beneath a highly textured sky. The sky occupies the upper portion of the canvas and is composed of grouped strokes in yellow, orange, blue, and purple. Below it, a line of distant trees is painted with thin vertical marks in muted green, grey, and purple.
The lake stretches across the middle of the painting and is rendered in horizontal bands of blue, green, and pale yellow. Low rock formations appear behind the water, painted with strokes of brown, grey, and purple. Several narrow evergreen trees stand in the middle of the composition, their trunks and branches described with dark lines and layered green shapes.
The foreground contains shrubs, small trees, and grouped vegetation in yellow, red, green, and violet. Thin pale lines indicate branches and new growth. The artist’s signature appears in the lower right corner. No figures or buildings are present.
