This painting centres on a sharply rendered silver gift bow set against a field of crumpled red wrapping material. The bow’s folded metallic planes catch high-value highlights and cool greys, while thin red reflections thread through the creases, linking it to the surrounding paper. Broad passages of red shift from deep crimson to lighter pink-red, with hard-edged facets suggesting tightly folded ridges and compressed hollows. The composition is cropped closely so that the bow reads as an object and a set of angular forms, held in place by the surrounding folds. The work rewards extended viewing.
