About the Artwork
The Fields is a 30" × 36" oil painting on canvas by Steve R. Coffey. Open fields stretch across the bottom of the composition beneath a sky crowded with white, grey, and blue clouds. Narrow green, ochre, and brown bands describe the distant agricultural land.
Broad, raised strokes give the cloud bank a sculptural presence, while the fields are arranged in flatter horizontal bands and small divisions of colour.

Accessibility Description
A horizontal landscape painting with a low horizon and a broad cloud-filled sky. The bottom fifth contains flat agricultural fields arranged in narrow horizontal bands of green, yellow-green, ochre, brown, and dark earth tones. Thin pale lines divide some sections, suggesting roads, field edges, or irrigation channels. A narrow dark tree line marks the far horizon beneath a thin yellow-green strip. Above, rounded clouds occupy most of the canvas. The clouds are painted in white, cream, pale grey, blue-grey, mauve, and touches of soft pink. Darker blue and grey shapes appear between and beneath the brighter cloud forms. The upper corners contain more blue, while the centre is densely packed with pale cloud masses. Thick, looping brushstrokes and ridges of paint create a textured surface throughout the sky. The land is comparatively smooth and linear, providing a visual base for the clustered forms above. No people or buildings are prominent. A small signature is visible near the lower right edge.

CARING FOR YOUR ARTWORK
Display
Hang artwork away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air vents. UV exposure causes fading over time — UV-protective glazing is recommended for works on paper and photography. Avoid hanging artwork above fireplaces or in bathrooms where heat and humidity fluctuate.
Cleaning
Dust frames gently with a soft, dry cloth. Never use household cleaners, water, or solvents on the artwork surface. For oil paintings, a soft-bristle brush can be used lightly to remove surface dust. Professional cleaning is recommended for valuable or delicate pieces.
Temperature & Humidity
Maintain a stable environment — ideally 18–22°C (65–72°F) with 40–55% relative humidity. Rapid changes in temperature or humidity can cause warping, cracking, or flaking. In Alberta’s dry climate, a humidifier can help protect your collection during winter months.
Handling & Moving
Always handle artwork with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. Carry framed works by the sides of the frame — never by the hanging wire. When transporting, wrap in acid-free tissue or soft blankets and keep upright. For valuable pieces, professional art handlers and custom crating are recommended.
Storage
Store artwork upright in a cool, dry, dark space. Use acid-free materials for wrapping. Never store artwork in attics, basements, or garages where temperature and humidity are uncontrolled.
