About the Artwork
Moon Spill on the Selkirks is a 24" x 20" acrylic painting by Robert Genn, created in 2004. Part of the Robert Genn Archive, this work has never before been exhibited publicly, offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire an unseen piece of the artist’s legacy. The painting captures a luminous nocturnal scene in the Selkirk Mountains, where the full moon casts its reflection across the rugged alpine peaks and the rippling surface of a mountain lake.
In this work, Genn demonstrates his gift for distilling vast natural forms into poetic harmonies of colour and design. Layers of blue and violet dominate the palette, with pale highlights tracing the moonlit spill across the water. The scene is pared down to its essentials, yet resonates with a meditative clarity—an image of both grandeur and intimacy. With its restrained tones and atmospheric glow, this painting reveals Genn’s ability to transform the Canadian wilderness into an evocative vision that feels timeless and contemplative.

Accessibility Description
This vertical painting depicts a night scene in the mountains. A pale full moon glows in the upper centre, suspended above jagged alpine peaks painted in cool tones of blue and grey. A cascade of lighter blue brushstrokes descends diagonally from the mountains toward the foreground, suggesting the moonlight spilling across the surface of water. The lower half of the painting shows horizontal bands of shifting light and shadow across rippling water, rendered in deep blues with soft reflections. The overall palette is dominated by variations of blue, with subtle accents of violet and turquoise. The brushwork is simplified and confident, giving the scene a sense of quiet rhythm and flowing movement. The atmosphere is serene and contemplative, emphasizing the moon’s glow and the stillness of a nocturnal mountain landscape.Shipping & Exchanges

Artwork Care
CARING FOR YOUR ARTWORK
Display
Hang artwork away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air vents. UV exposure causes fading over time — UV-protective glazing is recommended for works on paper and photography. Avoid hanging artwork above fireplaces or in bathrooms where heat and humidity fluctuate.
Cleaning
Dust frames gently with a soft, dry cloth. Never use household cleaners, water, or solvents on the artwork surface. For oil paintings, a soft-bristle brush can be used lightly to remove surface dust. Professional cleaning is recommended for valuable or delicate pieces.
Temperature & Humidity
Maintain a stable environment — ideally 18–22°C (65–72°F) with 40–55% relative humidity. Rapid changes in temperature or humidity can cause warping, cracking, or flaking. In Alberta’s dry climate, a humidifier can help protect your collection during winter months.
Handling & Moving
Always handle artwork with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. Carry framed works by the sides of the frame — never by the hanging wire. When transporting, wrap in acid-free tissue or soft blankets and keep upright. For valuable pieces, professional art handlers and custom crating are recommended.
Storage
Store artwork upright in a cool, dry, dark space. Use acid-free materials for wrapping. Never store artwork in attics, basements, or garages where temperature and humidity are uncontrolled.
Insurance
We recommend insuring your art collection. An up-to-date appraisal (every 2–3 years) ensures proper coverage. West End Gallery offers professional appraisal services — please enquire for details.
