About the Artwork
Hill Forest is a 72" × 48" oil painting on canvas by Steve R. Coffey. A stand of dark evergreen trees borders a central opening beneath a pale sky. Billowing clouds and a circular sun or moon occupy the upper field, while the foreground path draws the eye through the forest.
The trees are formed with dark, layered strokes and touches of green, blue, and ochre. Above them, loosely grouped marks in white, grey, blue, mauve, and soft yellow build the cloud-filled sky.

Accessibility Description
A large vertical landscape painting divided between a dark forest below and a luminous cloud-filled sky above. Evergreen trees rise from both sides of the lower half, leaving a narrow central opening. The trees are painted with layered dark green, blue-green, brown, and black strokes, with lighter green and ochre marks along some branch edges. A brown-grey path or exposed ground begins at the bottom centre and recedes toward the opening between the trees. The upper half contains pale blue sky and numerous rounded cloud forms in white, grey, mauve, and blue. A pale circular sun or moon appears above the centre, surrounded by lighter yellow and white paint. Small dark and coloured marks are scattered across the sky between the larger clouds. Thick paint and visible brushstrokes create a highly textured surface. The composition is nearly symmetrical around the central opening, though the trees vary in height and density.

CARING FOR YOUR ARTWORK
Display
Hang artwork away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air vents. UV exposure causes fading over time — UV-protective glazing is recommended for works on paper and photography. Avoid hanging artwork above fireplaces or in bathrooms where heat and humidity fluctuate.
Cleaning
Dust frames gently with a soft, dry cloth. Never use household cleaners, water, or solvents on the artwork surface. For oil paintings, a soft-bristle brush can be used lightly to remove surface dust. Professional cleaning is recommended for valuable or delicate pieces.
Temperature & Humidity
Maintain a stable environment — ideally 18–22°C (65–72°F) with 40–55% relative humidity. Rapid changes in temperature or humidity can cause warping, cracking, or flaking. In Alberta’s dry climate, a humidifier can help protect your collection during winter months.
Handling & Moving
Always handle artwork with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. Carry framed works by the sides of the frame — never by the hanging wire. When transporting, wrap in acid-free tissue or soft blankets and keep upright. For valuable pieces, professional art handlers and custom crating are recommended.
Storage
Store artwork upright in a cool, dry, dark space. Use acid-free materials for wrapping. Never store artwork in attics, basements, or garages where temperature and humidity are uncontrolled.
