Evenings Approach, Pacific Rim is a 20" × 20" oil on canvas painting by Rod Charlesworth (b. 1955), depicting a forest-framed coastal inlet along the Pacific Rim, with tall pines opening onto calm water.

Tall pine and fir trees in dark green frame both sides of the composition, opening onto a view of blue water and a distant tree-lined shoreline beneath a light blue sky. Rocky outcrops and autumn-toned foliage in orange and gold occupy the foreground, adding warmth against the cooler tones of the water and sky. Small patches of pale cloud drift near the horizon.

Charlesworth renders the pine branches with layered, overlapping strokes of dark and lighter green, building density in the foreground trees. The water is described with short, horizontal strokes of blue, while the distant shoreline is painted with softer, more blended colour. The foreground rocks and foliage are built from thicker, more textured strokes in orange, gold, and green, with fine dark lines describing the bare branches among the underbrush.

Accessibility Description

This square oil painting depicts a coastal forest view. Tall pine and fir trees, painted in dark green, rise along both the left and right edges of the composition, their branches extending inward and partially framing the scene. Between the trees, a distant tree-covered shoreline is visible beneath a light blue sky with pale clouds drifting near the horizon. A body of calm blue water occupies the middle portion of the canvas, its surface rendered in horizontal strokes that suggest gentle movement. A rocky point extends into the water at the right side of the composition, with a smaller rock visible just offshore. In the foreground, rocky outcrops are covered with autumn-toned foliage in orange, gold, and green, along with smaller evergreen saplings and bare branches. The rocks are rendered in grey and brown tones with visible texture. The framing trees draw the eye toward the open water at the centre of the painting. The artist's signature appears in the lower portion of the canvas. A few bare, weathered branches rise among the foreground foliage, adding vertical accents near the rocks.
