Celestial Dragon | 60" x 60"
About the Artwork
Celestial Dragon is a 60" × 60" mixed media painting on canvas by Annabelle Marquis. A monumental dragon form, presented frontally and framed by a luminous circular disc that recalls a moon or celestial body. The creature’s face emerges from dense layers of colour, pattern, and metallic elements, occupying the pictorial space with authority and precision.
Marquis builds the surface through an intuitive process of collage, acrylic paint, and gold leaf, allowing imagery to surface organically rather than from a predetermined plan. Electric blues and deep ultramarines form the surrounding field, while saturated reds, corals, turquoise, and pinks define the dragon’s body and mane-like extensions. Fine linework, patterned fragments, and reflective gold passages are interwoven throughout, creating shifts in depth and light as the viewer moves.

Accessibility Description
This large square painting depicts a stylized dragon facing forward at the centre of the canvas. The dragon’s head is framed by a pale turquoise circular disc positioned behind it, resembling a moon. Its facial features include a broad nose, open mouth, and layered whisker-like forms extending outward. Flame-like shapes rise upward from the head, rendered in pink, orange, teal, and gold. The dragon’s body coils downward, filling the lower half of the composition with dense strokes of red, orange, purple, and blue. The background is predominantly deep blue, with darker areas and subtle variations in tone. Throughout the surface, there are patterned fragments, fine lines, and metallic gold areas that catch the light. The overall composition is symmetrical, highly detailed, and visually dense, with strong contrast between the luminous central figure and the darker surrounding field.Shipping & Exchanges

Artwork Care
CARING FOR YOUR ARTWORK
Display
Hang artwork away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air vents. UV exposure causes fading over time — UV-protective glazing is recommended for works on paper and photography. Avoid hanging artwork above fireplaces or in bathrooms where heat and humidity fluctuate.
Cleaning
Dust frames gently with a soft, dry cloth. Never use household cleaners, water, or solvents on the artwork surface. For oil paintings, a soft-bristle brush can be used lightly to remove surface dust. Professional cleaning is recommended for valuable or delicate pieces.
Temperature & Humidity
Maintain a stable environment — ideally 18–22°C (65–72°F) with 40–55% relative humidity. Rapid changes in temperature or humidity can cause warping, cracking, or flaking. In Alberta’s dry climate, a humidifier can help protect your collection during winter months.
Handling & Moving
Always handle artwork with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. Carry framed works by the sides of the frame — never by the hanging wire. When transporting, wrap in acid-free tissue or soft blankets and keep upright. For valuable pieces, professional art handlers and custom crating are recommended.
Storage
Store artwork upright in a cool, dry, dark space. Use acid-free materials for wrapping. Never store artwork in attics, basements, or garages where temperature and humidity are uncontrolled.
Insurance
We recommend insuring your art collection. An up-to-date appraisal (every 2–3 years) ensures proper coverage. West End Gallery offers professional appraisal services — please enquire for details.
