Bringing More Straw is a 9" x 12" oil painting by Peter Shostak. Shostak shows what life is like on a Canadian prairie farm during winter. A simple but essential task of bringing straw to the barnyard to provide for the animals during the cold months. The familiar architecture of the barn at the centre of the painting symbolizes the hard work and strength of farm life. The crisp colours of winter fill the sky and relay the chilly environment. However, the way Peter shows the light and textures, especially in the snow and the wood of the buildings, makes the painting feel warm even though it's about the strong connection between farmers and their work, which helps them get through the long winters on the prairies.
