Pillar is a 72"x66" mixed media on canvas by Blu Smith featuring a towering Rainbow Eucalyptus tree standing firm in the center of the painting. The bark has a mixed media texture coloured in mint green highlights with open areas of earth-tone bark. There is an intertwining of many thick shoots. The leaves and greenery are broken up with familiar purples and subtle red and orange strokes. The tree's vibrant colour is derived from seasonal exfoliation, where it sheds layers of its bark to reveal bright green, blue, and purple hues. Blu's use of liquid washes and subtle dripping paint near the tree roots creates a sense of organic motion and life.
