Robert Genn

Robert Genn was born in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1936. Formal training began at the University of Victoria and continued at the University of British Columbia and the Art Center School in Los Angeles, California. Recognized as one of Canada's most accomplished painters, Robert's painting career spans decades and has become well-known globally. His artwork excels in portraying the Canadian landscape. His depictions of Canada's west coast and the Rocky Mountains have received particular recognition.

His technique is unmistakable. His style includes a tradition of robust design with harmonic patterns of colour and form. Grand themes are transposed onto small panels and canvases like the Group of Seven. His larger paintings are unique monuments that honour Canada and have formed an essential part of our cultural heritage. Prominent galleries represent him across Canada. Robert has been a mainstay at the West End Gallery in Edmonton and Victoria for almost 45 years.

Publications include an autobiographical book, In Praise of Painting, which provides an insight into the progress and trials of a Canadian painter. Other Genn books include The Dreamway, The Painter's Keys, and Love Letters to Art.
