It has a deep, reddish-brown base colour with darker brown stripes that create a textured appearance. The brown tones are warm and vary in intensity, with some areas appearing almost translucent. The beak is a bright, glossy red that starkly contrasts the darker body colours. The piece's surface has a crackle glass texture that Petersen achieved using a technique where he immersed the hot glass in cold water and then reheated it. This technique created a unique web of intricate lines trailing the surface of the decoy. The beak transitions from a rich earthen grey to a striking translucent red, amplifying the natural tones and vibrant contrasts found in nature.
