Leaving the Bay is a 30" x 40" acrylic painting by Peter Wyse created on a birch panel with painted white edges. Wyse's unique painting technique starts with dark underpaintings and builds toward the light. Meticulously applied layering of acrylic, one atop another, creates a rich and textural seascape that feels dreamlike and immediate. Thanks to Wyse's unique technique of sanding between layers, the orcas that emerge from the sea have a tactile quality, lending a sense of realism to their glossy black-and-white forms. Above the waterline, the cityscape twinkles while the skyline is awash with stars and cloud-kissed mountains.
