We are delighted to welcome Jeongmin Ahn!

We are delighted to welcome Jeongmin Ahn, an emerging hyperrealist painter, to West End Gallery. Known for his meticulous oil paintings, Ahn transforms everyday discarded objects into subjects of striking detail and reflection. His practice explores themes of consumption, waste, and value, inviting viewers to reconsider the beauty and significance of the overlooked.

Introducing Jeongmin Ahn

Ahn graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2020, following an apprenticeship with renowned hyperrealist Hae-Kwang Jeong in Seoul. Having lived in Bangladesh, South Korea, and Canada, his early experiences of ecological strain deeply influence his work. Since relocating to Edmonton in 2024, Ahn has continued to expand his practice and, in 2025, was awarded an Individuals and Collectives Grant from the Edmonton Arts Council.

The Trash Series

Ahn’s ongoing Trash series brings together crushed cans, candy, and even garbage bags, each rendered with astonishing precision. Through reflective surfaces, distorted lettering, and the sculptural qualities of ordinary materials, he elevates waste into objects of contemplation. The result is a body of work that questions how value is assigned in a consumer-driven world, transforming the disposable into subjects of permanence and power.

Trash #26, Oil on Canvas, 36" x 30"

This painting captures a crushed Diet Pepsi can in gleaming hyperrealist detail. The metallic folds and warped branding are elevated into a striking meditation on waste and reflection.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Ahn’s work has been exhibited across British Columbia and Alberta, including shows with the Surrey Art Gallery, Richmond Art Gallery, and Port Coquitlam Arts Council. His growing body of work has been recognized not only for its technical mastery but also for its conceptual depth, bridging still life with cultural commentary.

About the Artist

Born in Korea and raised between Bangladesh and South Korea, Ahn’s perspective has been shaped by diverse cultural and environmental experiences. His paintings pursue the idea of perfectionism, where excessive detail redefines the value of everyday objects. By rendering the discarded with care and precision, Ahn highlights both fragility and resilience within the material world.
