Whimsical Worlds: New Paul Jorgensen Paintings Arrive!

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of five stunning new paintings by Canadian artist Paul Jorgensen! These vibrant, joyful works continue his tradition of creating fantastical landscapes that transport viewers to the idyllic Mediterranean and European settings through his distinctively playful lens.

A Celebration of Colour and Imagination

Paul Jorgensen's work is instantly recognizable for its vibrant colour palettes, whimsical distortions of perspective, and the sense of joy that radiates from each canvas. Jorgensen says, "My paintings are not intended to be a serious worldview. I like work that involves imagination and technique and that suggests stories. I want to make people happy looking at my paintings."

Born in Tofino and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Jorgensen draws inspiration from his travels in Europe, particularly the Tuscan landscape. After graduating from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in the early 1970s, Jorgensen spent years pursuing various creative endeavours before dedicating himself entirely to painting. Now, collectors worldwide cherish his unique vision and the wonder his work evokes.

Jorgensen portrays a charming Mediterranean village in his whimsical style. The scene features cubic structures in lavender blues, creamy whites, and sunny yellows with terracotta roofs, nestled on a hillside descending to a waterway. Towering cypress trees in golden olive tones frame the view against a pale mint sky, while vibrant flowering trees add bursts of red and green. A peach-coloured stone pathway leads through the foreground, and a small turquoise boat rests at the water's edge, creating a serene late afternoon along the Adriatic coastline with a dreamlike quality.

The composition features tall, chartreuse-green trees that appear almost human as they reach across a salmon-pink landscape. Cherry blossoms bloom in bright magenta and soft pink against a clear blue sky, signalling the joyful arrival of spring.

In this striking composition, Jorgensen's characteristic water treatment creates a mirror-like reflection of a villa surrounded by stylized trees. The extraordinary colour palette—luminous turquoise water against purples, yellows, and pinks—demonstrates his fearless approach to colour. Note the charming gazebo and the varied brushwork that ranges from delicate patterning to bold strokes.
