Guy Roy was born in East Broughton in the Thetford Mines region, on April 8, 1948. He attended Laval University, where he earned a BA in Psychology 1971. He taught for two years at the Collège de la région de l'Amiante then became an educational consultant, a position he held for 32 years before retiring in April 2003.
Quite by accident, in 1982, he discovered painting, and it was love at first sight. He regularly attended Raymond Lachance workshops and continued his training with Marcel Rousseau at the Moulin des Arts in Saint-Etienne de Lauzon. During this period, he also followed intensive sessions with other artists such as Jean-Paul Ladouceur, Maurice Lebon, Nicole Foreman.
"As a visual artist, painting is a constant endeavour. You must overcome your fears, develop your spontaneity, and above all, take risks while accepting mistakes. The great thing about painting is you can always start fresh while saying: this time I will succeed. Nonetheless, you must know your limits and understand your deceptions while trying to surpass yourself with every new brushstroke."
