Its small front wheels project into the pale ground, while the large rear tyre gives the composition weight on the right. Above the body, the thin exhaust pipe and open steering wheel stand clearly against the yellow-green background; their spare outlines contrast with the densely worked machinery below.

Blue-violet shadows do much of the drawing, separating the chassis, wheel treads and overlapping mechanical parts. Paquette uses those cool marks to hold the structure together while allowing the warmer bodywork to remain broken and varied. Broad strokes around the wheels carry the same freedom into the ground, where grey shadows and yellow patches keep the tractor from appearing isolated against a flat backdrop.

Dimensions and Details

Title: The Old Red Tractor

Artist: Paul Paquette

Size: 30" × 30" (76.2 × 76.2 cm), height × width

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Display: Unframed on 1½″ (3.8 cm) deep gallery stretchers with finished black edges; custom framing is available and quoted separately.

Acquisition Enquiries

The Old Red Tractor is an original oil painting available through West End Gallery. Two small front wheels sit towards the lower left and centre, with a large, deeply treaded rear wheel on the right. An open circular steering wheel, curved seat and tall narrow exhaust pipe rise above the tractor body. Ochre and green patches interrupt the red paint, while blue-violet strokes mark tyres and mechanical shadows.
