The horn and eye sit near the upper centre, surrounded by dense passages of dark brown, russet and near-black fur. Wiens builds the coat through many short directional marks, shifting their angle and colour to describe the curve of the forehead, cheek and shoulder. A pale, softly modulated background provides broad negative space around the profile, increasing the contrast with the heavily worked surface of the animal.
