We are excited to announce a major acquisition - a genuine oil painting, Autumn Tapestry Madawaska River, by A.J. Casson, one of Canada's most recognized artists. The painting was purchased in the late 1950s and has been meticulously cared for over six decades in a family collection. This oil on board measures 12"x 15" and beautifully captures the tranquil allure of one of Ontario's most cherished waterways. With its rich history and stunning natural beauty, the Madawaska River has long inspired artists, adventurers, and nature lovers alike. Winding through the rugged landscapes of the Canadian Shield, the river has played a vital role in the region's logging history, Indigenous heritage, and recreational activities. It's this significance that Casson so masterfully encapsulates in his paintings that was recognized early on, leading to his invitation by mentor Franklin Carmichael to join the iconic Group of Seven in 1926.
This painting has yet to be publicly displayed since its original purchase. The artwork has been inspected, authenticated, and well-preserved in a non-smoking home. It is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Canadian art history. The painting is documented in multiple signed appraisal documents throughout the decades, which will be provided to the buyer.
