Allen Sapp

Allen Sapp was born in the winter of 1928 on the Red Pheasant Reserve in north central Saskatchewan. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. Allen Sapp has been recognized nationally and internationally for his paintings of life on the prairies depicting the cultural life of his people, the Cree. With unceasing dignity and sublime perception, Sapp clearly articulates his unending quest to create a visual legacy of his life and his people. Sapp simply and poetically paints humanity and nature and the power of community, and the poignancy of endless struggle with a harsh environment. Sapp's work is represented in major private and corporate collections throughout the world, as well as in the permanent collection housed in the Allen Sapp Museum, North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
