Élène Gamache
Born in 1951 in Quebec City, Quebec, Élène has studied at École des Beaux Arts de Quebec, Laval University and Banff School of Fine Arts. In Élène Gamache's works, we enter a world where sanctity and ritual exist side by side with simplicity. She transports us to another world, where reality and imagination co-exist; a world full of mythical creatures, which co-habit with still life elements such as flowers, fruit and animals. Élène paints only what interests her and her aim is to obtain a certain bright, velvety texture in her works by superimposing colour on colour on the canvas. The base is worked in acrylics, then she adds pastels, scratching and applying them to give depth to the work. The still life elements in Élène's pieces are always lively because she says she prefers her still lifes to be alive and vibrant.
